Dream Theater Guitar Tabs - This is the Life
This has got to be one of the best Dream Theater solos ever and I have to say the guy on video below does a great job playing this track - for more DT stuff check out this http://www.dreamtheatertabs.com
I have tried to play Dream Theater stuff over the years, but tend to get stuck with some of the more technical stuff. Definitely not for the beginner, although very cool if you can even pull off a couple of John Petrucci riffs.
Best thing to do is to start playing slowly with a metronome and keep at that speed until you can play all the notes without any mistakes. Then gradually crank up the speed until you are confident at a slightly faster speed, then crank up to full speed. Think this is the only way to become proficient in playing the fast DT stuff, but that applies to any kind of guitar shredding.

One of the things I love about Dream Theater is their wide mix of musical styles, prog, rock, metal, blues, classical and jazz. Just about everything including the kitchen sink is thrown in there at some point.
Been a while since I last saw them in concert, but really looking forward to the next gig.
